David vs. David

I guess Goliath must have checked out of the hotel because he was nowhere to be found. Just a couple of Davids duking it out in the center of the ring. And only one of them could be left standing.
In case you missed it, the "Idol" finals were this past week. And there were a couple of surprises. First, Simon apologized. When can you remember THAT happening? Second, his appointed victor did not win. Maybe we've heard the last reference to "the curse of the bambino." From henceforth, will it be referred to as "the curse of the Simino"?
In years past, it has seemed like the judges began to try to "way the vote" with their comments and endorsements. I do believe that the artist with the highest degree of "artistry" was the winner this year.
But isn't it interesting that at the beginning of the Final 12, David Cook probably wasn't in most people's Top 5? He consistently performed what was natural to him, stayed in his element and systematically began to win over the judges and fans. And it worked. I'm anxious to hear what his new project will sound like. And I'm interested to see which, if any, of this year's Top 12 will have an influence on CCM radio.
In this year's finals, we witnessed two legitimate contenders at markedly different places in the age spectrum. I strongly doubt we have heard the last from David Archuleta. If some of the close influences in his life don't get him totally off center, he looks to have a bright future. That is a realistic, sizable IF, though.
It turned out to be an epic battle. David vs. David. And the coolest part of it for me? In the end, nobody was throwing rocks! There were still two Davids. And both were last seen walking towards a new, challenging battlefield.
Soldiering on...
