Did He Know What He Was Signing Up For?
February 22, 2019
Have an opinion? Add your comment below. Kasey Musgraves and Chris Stapleton led the nominations and they don't get a lot of terrestrial radio airplay. So that mutes some discussion. Some labels and PR/managers just lead great teams through award season. They keep their acts in the conversation. No need to name names; just look at some of the established acts still getting nominations

No shortage of water cooler talk around Music Row this week ... the news just now coming out that one of Music Row's founding fathers has died.
Monument Records founder Fred Foster died at the age of 87. Foster was instrumental in the careers of Dolly, Kris and Willie. He was the producer of those worldwide hits of Roy Orbison. He was a Music Row legend. Signing to his Combine Music publishing a beginner, Kris Kristofferson. A Country Music Hall of Famer and a behind-the-scenes resume only a few in Nashville could ever equal. He's the guy/girl every wannabe songwriter hopes will find them.
Monkee bassist Peter Tork died this week, too. No MusicRow connection other than plenty grew up listening to their music.
Nostalgia week all around with that NBC Elvis special.
The ratings were not good for that. It was placed against Walking Dead and the NBA All-Star game. That's over 10 million people for those two non-network shows. NBC got about six million tops. Fun show and well done. Best part was the "I Can Dream" ending and the return of Mac Davis. Mac's still got it!
Now the ACM nominations: Award shows seem to attract a lot of blowback these days ... from fans of the not-nominated folks
And from the camp wanting to see more women nominated.
Fans of Eric Church, Blake Shelton, Kelsea Ballerini, Randy Houser, Dustin Lynch all waving red flags. Remember it's like Miss America: One winner and 50 losers. It's just the way it is until award shows go away and everyone gets a trophy.

For the baby acts it's a very big deal. Just ask Lindsay Ell and Jimmie Allen. They were on social media with great joy.
Dan & Shay with six nominations ... and those nominations will turn into a few wins in the least. When things go good, they snowball, just like when water flows in the opposite direction.
Then there is the continuing story of Miranda. From the salad affair last week to marriage this week. WOW. Officer McLoughlin's week has, I am sure, been very eye-opening. It got so bad, his bosses had to reassign him away for his Times Square beat. Too many folks wanting pictures, autographs and selfies. Not to mention the media pulling up in remote trucks and camera crews to attempt interviews. (Note: they were all denied)
He's now driving the brass around until things cool down. He's seen his pre-Miranda 2018 love life dissected. I'm sure that was not pleasant. Street dancing from 2015 looked fun and that was positive. The teenage model page probably made him roll his eyes. TMZ and all the others would even be worse if it was not for Jussie Smollett.
Miranda has been in the witness protection program since the salad thing. She was seen in NYC with him on the day of the wedding announcement but not since.
Don't you know the paparazzi bounty is high for a picture of Miranda holding her new stepson. Big bucks!
Nashville people had no sunshine this week. Enough rain to build an ark. Very crazy week!
