I finally snapped this afternoon. I listened to one more aircheck, and it turned out to be the 7,352nd consecutive jock demo in which the talent's "content" consisted of repeating stories about celebrities. So I went outside, yelled #&*$!! real loud, and felt slightly better. I'm sure the people in the office next door wondered what that was about.
From listening to on-air performances, airchecks and job auditions, any sane person would conclude that radio had done a giant research project and discovered that the ONLY things female listeners were interested in were celebrities and radio station liners.
Clearly, that giant research project must have told radio that women were definitely not interested in someone who was interested in them. That kind of person might touch on topics like:
- how's her day going?
- how's she feel right now?
- how does she feel about ____?
- what's she doing or thinking about today/right now?
- what's she looking forward to?
- etc.No, she wouldn't be interested in that. She'd rather hear us repeat something she read in People, or saw on ET, or heard on every morning show in the market this morning.
Maybe I can listen to one more aircheck. Maybe it will be different. But I'm guessing that I'll hear something about Britney or Fergie or Lindsay in the first break...
